Rainy October Saturdays

Anne here.
What do you do when...
...when your college grad daughter is missing her Irish boyfriend?
...when it's the first day of October and it's raining all day?
...and she can't teleport or time hop to Ireland?

First, you feed her chocolate!

And have some coffee & tea together!

But when she's bumming that she can't be at her favorite Greystones, Ireland restaurant having soup with Simon...

...we bring The Happy Pear home and cook up some of our own Irish potato soup!

We made soup from the Avoca Cafe Cookbook where Simon worked:
Sweet Potato Lemongrass Soup! Mmmmm!

...and it was ready just in time for a Skype call from Simon.
...and it was raining all day there too, and he said he'd just gone to the Happy Pear for soup that day!
Somehow soup seemed to span the miles.

  1. My sister lives in Haiti, so we use Messenger a lot and send each other silly photos or call through it sometimes...we make coffee date plans months in advance for something to look forward too and we send each other pictures of virtual coffee.;) We also talk Scriptures and books and send each other quotes and reflections...

  2. My stepdaughter was moved several states away when she was 12. Over the years all have passed away but her 21 yr old son (including her). We lost her in Feb. and her other three children over time. Her daughter was killed this week in a car accident at 26 yrs old.
Our other two children and their families live close by. My brother and mom too. We are blessed in that respect.

    1. oh wow, Gail! That is heart breaking. Hold close the ones you love, and find a way to span the miles!
