Book Report: The Covered Deep by Brandy Vallance

Meet Brandy Vallance this week during the give away for The Covered Deep.

~~It's Who-Done-It style meets
~~Jane Eyre-ish romance
~~on an adventurous voyage
~~to the Holy Land....

No, it's not a mystery, but The Covered Deep does bring a group of strangers together on an adventure where each character's background deepens the mystery of their interactions.
It's not a tragedy in the true sense of the word, but it does paint a picture of hope for redemption for those in tragic situations. This story takes the reader on a voyage that is neither traditional nor formulaic.

Bianca Marshal has turned down every possible suitor in her small Appalachian town, waiting on her prince charming--a man she hopes can quote Jesus and Shakespeare. Reaching twenty-five, she's refused to lower her standard despite her mother's pleas to settle for less. At her father's urging, she enters a contest and wins a place on a voyage to the Holy Land, secretly hoping to meet her future husband.

With eyes blinded by sentimental hopes and dreams, she throws her affections to the feet of a handsome historian. Paul Emerson lives a changed life. But the faithless orchestrator of the whole adventure knows the pasts of all his pawns and sets the plot in motion while waiting to see if any of them can prove the transforming power of faith.

Will the price for truth be too high to pay? For who?
Can Bianca dig beneath the surface to the deeper places where love requires forgiveness?

Biography
Brandy Vallance fell in love with the Victorian time period at a young age, loving the customs, manners, and especially the intricate rules of love. Since time travel is theoretically impossible, she lives in the nineteenth century vicariously through her novels. Unaccountable amounts of black tea have fueled this ambition. Brandy's love of tea can only be paralleled by her love of Masterpiece Theater Classics, deep conversations, and a good book. Brandy is the 2013 Operation First Novel winner and the 2012 winner of the ACFW Genesis Contest for historical romance. 2. I live in a small Appalachian town, so this is intriguing to me...but also because it is partially set in the Holy Land! Would love to win--heard nothing but great things about this book. And I've never been to Israel but my great-aunt has and has done talks with slides on the experience.

I have not been to the Holy Land. One of our Pastors just returned from a trip there in October and could not recommend it enough...

  8. No, I have not. I've actually never traveled outside of the US, though I dream of one day getting to visit some amazing places like the Holy Land. That would be so awesome! *sigh* Unfortunately, the only traveling I'll be doing for a while is through my imagination. But that's okay too. I love reading so that is definitely not a trial for me. :)
I've heard great things about this book and am very excited to read it! Thanks for the chance to win!

  9. I haven't been to the Holy Land but it is at the top of my travel list - I have wanted to go there for so many years, can't imagine walking in the same places as Christ!! If would be an overwhelmingly spiritual experience!!

Congrats, Brandy, looking forward to becoming acquainted with your writing!!

  12. I have been to Israel twice now and would love to go back. It is so awesome to walk around and know that is where Jesus and those of the Bible walked and lived. Their lives were so different from ours, it's awesomely humbling. I loved the land and people there.
