Throwback Thursday

Erica here. I came across this picture this weekend, and it made me smile. This is me at age three. Back when I had blonde hair and blue eyes. My mom had put my hair in those pink sponge curlers overnight to help straighten it, since it was corkscrew-curly otherwise. When I look at this picture, I see my dad's features, the Bonam nose, the Bonam chin, the Bonam hands. And I see my children. Both of my kids have strongly Bonam features. (I was a Bonam before I became a Vetsch.)

Do you resemble one parent more than another? Do your kids look like you?

  1. I look more like my dad. Short, fat, with ugly shaped legs. My brother looked so much like my dad that a friend of dads nicknamed my brother Boo Boo. He said they looked like Yogi Bear and Boo Boo. My kids even still call him Uncle Boo. My kids, thank goodness, look like my husband, especially in build. They are both tall and slender (my husband is 6ft 5 in.) Many say my daughter favors me in the face, but I'm not so sure. Personality wise, my daughter is just like my husband and my son is just like me.

    1. My kids are both tall and thin. The thin comes from my husband, the tall comes from...we're not sure where. :) My daughter is just like my husband personality wise, and my son is just like me, too! :)

  2. I look very much like my mom, though not as much now as when I was younger. People who went to school with her easily recognize me as being her daughter -- I used to get stopped regularly in the store by people I had never seen before who knew who I was because of the strong resemblance to my mom. I don't look as much like her now that I'm older and have glasses, though.
I don't have any kids of my own, but my oldest brother's oldest daughter looks enough like me to be my daughter... I've been told numerous times that she looks exactly like me.

    1. I love seeing how family resemblances are passed down. My son uses his hands to talk just like my brother does. Which is funny, because we've never lived anywhere near my brother, and my son hasn't spent enough time with him to really pick up any of the mannerisms. They're just innate.

  3. Such a cute pic, Erica!! I used to have blond curls when I was a child, also - however, unlike you - no natural curl. My mother rolled my hair on rags to make ringlets.

Everyone used to say I looked like my mother's sister - however, most think I look like my mother now. My boys look more like their father, I think.

    1. I never had rag-rolled hair, just those spongy pink curlers. I hated Saturday night baths because I knew I'd have to sleep in those knobby curlers. :S

  4. Sponge rollers? Heavenly! I used to sleep on those horrid brush rollers every night. Don't know how I ever stood it. We suffer for beauty. Thank goodness hot rollers were invented when I was a teenager.
