Book Report & Giveaway: While Love Stirs, By Lorna Seilstad

With the influx of foodie novels coming our way, it was bound to reach into the historical romance genre. And WHAT FUN! it was to go through this latest by Lorna Seilstad.

Charlotte Gregory is an old-fashioned "foodie". She's been through culinary school, is intent on reforming the local hospitals nutritional program while providing patients with food served on fine china, and currently assists in selling the latest new thing: gas stoves.

There's a delicious and savory love triangle, with the main hero being a man after my own tastes: snarky, a tad rude, terribly OCD, with a penchant for the bland and boring. Enter Charlotte to stir things up a bit and make this well-ordered world erupt with chocolate volcano proportions.

Ms. Seilstad, writes colorful characters loaded with sass, opinion, humor and grace. This is a funny, spirited historical romance at the turn of the century when men were encountering women finding their voices.

I thoroughly enjoyed this read.

  1. I'm not a cook! I hate to cook! But I love to eat!! Especially Italian, so I'd have to go with that. But I also like desserts.

  2. Sounds like a fun new twist on a historical romance! My dh and I are always trying to expand our abilities with one of our favorite foods - barbecue.

    1. Kim, you won the copy!! :) Contact me at jaimewrightbooks (at) gmail (dot) com with your snail mail address :)

  3. That is a tough one, because I just love food. I love it all. I like to cook, but I would hardly call my skills to any above amateur. And, I also am pretty boring, and will make something and eat it over and over again. But, if I could make someone and make it really, really, I would pick....cheesecake! Who doesn't like a delicious pieces of cheesecake?! Yum!

  4. Perfectly prepared chicken cordon bleu or chicken fettuccine alfredo, roasted asparagus, roasted baby red potatoes, roasted sweet potatoes with a maple glaze, and for dessert, orange creme cheesecake. Hmm, I think I just figured out what to tell my hubby I want for my birthday dinner. I don't know what I would drink with it though. I like coffee and tea but don't think they go with this meal, and it can't be wine 'cause I'm allergic to alcohol. Water is just too dull, for a fantastic meal like this. (Can you tell I love to eat?)

  5. Chocolate chip cookies, plain and simple.

  6. I'm not a cook for the most part, but I do love to bake! Cookies in general are my favorite to bake.

  7. I actually love to cook and bake, and according to my family chocolate chip cookies are at the top of my list of specialties! If I were to choose something, I would probably say stuffed shells, or I love baked penna with oven roasted vegetables - we don't have it often, because half of the people in my house don't like it and protest very loudly when it comes up as a dinner suggestion. I just sigh and we pick something else. lol
Thanks for a chance to win! This book sounds great!

  8. Hot rolls!

  9. I have no idea! I so much dislike cooking/baking that I can't even imagine an answer to this question... ;P

    Thanks for the giveaway! :)
