Book Report & GIVEAWAY: Stranded, by Dani Pettrey

Labor Day weekend is good for some things...and one of them was starting and finishing Dani Pettrey's "Stranded". You all know what a HUGE fan I am of this lady and her books. I mean, c'mon, it takes me well out of my historical genre and deep into suspense. I'm LOVIN' IT!

Heartbeat stand still. This was a page turner like no other. I even ignored my children for it. Yes. My daughter watched about four hours of Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood. She wasn't complaining and neither was I.

Disappearing women. Cruise ship. Murdered husband. Kayaking. Hot hero ... ahem ... maybe that was a spoiler. This book is so involved it's hard to even review for fear of giving something away.

So. Hero? Killer. Well, actually he's not a killer, but he's ... oh sheesh. This review is going nowhere fast. I'm just blubbering. Gage and Darcy make a great couple on the hunt for Darcy's missing friend, evading white water accidents and being thrown overboard.

Do you like cruises? You might think again once you read this book. And, it's recommended you don't read it before bed when you're home alone. In the dark. Like I did. It's not smart.

Here's the back cover blurb:

Darcy St. James returns to Alaska to join a journalist friend undercover on the trail of a big story. But when Darcy arrives, she finds her friend has disappeared. Troubled by the cruise ship's vague explanation, Darcy uses her cover as a travel reporter to investigate further.

The last person Gage McKenna expects to see during his summer aboard a cruise ship leading adventure excursions is Darcy. And in typical Darcy fashion, she's digging up more trouble.

He'd love to just forget her--but something won't let him. And he can't help but worry about her as they are heading into more remote regions of Alaska and eventually into foreign waters. Something sinister is going on, and the deeper they push, the more Gage fears they've only discovered the tip of the iceberg.

Sold yet? I'd say so!!! Tell me what your ultimate wild outdoor adventure would be and I'll enter you to win your own copy!! (Winner's announced Monday, 9/9!)

  1. I loved the first two books of this series and cannot wait to read Stranded! For a true outdoor adventure I would love to go mountain climbing :)

  2. This comment has been removed by the author.

  3. My ultimate outdoor adventure? Hmmm... I LOVE whitewater rafting, so that would definitely have to be included. BUT, I don't like sleeping in a tent-- camper of some sort. An all day (home/hotel that night) would be even better, lol. I would also need to be able to take lots of photos and bring my tripod along.

I really need to read these three books, they all sound great!

  4. I don't know if an Alaska cruise counts as an outdoor adventure, but I've always wanted to go. Maybe this book will scare me off?! LOL The outdoor adventure on my bucket list (and my husband and I are hoping to do this next summer or fall) is to overnight camp on Dry Tortuga in Florida.

  5. I haven't read any of Dani's books & would love to read this one -sounds very suspenseful, making it even more so - is the fact that disappearing at sea (while on a cruise ship) actually happens!

At my age - there aren't too many WILD outdoor adventures, but my favorite thing is just to watch & listen to the ocean waves, & watch the sun rise & set.

    Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!

  6. Ultimate outdoor wild adventure. Camping somewhere, in a remote woods, near a beautiful deserted beach. NOT CAMPING IN A TENT, but, in a cabin - a cozy cabin with lots of amenities like hot running water, showers, comfortable beds. Beautiful animals nearby, like deer, cute rabbits...oh, I'd have the company of my husband and a huge stack of books! We'd also go the remote beach during the day - the beach would be tropical and beautiful, kinda like the Tahitian and Cayman Island beaches!! :-)

  7. Looking forward to reading this book. Sounds very intriguing.Thank you Donita Corman

  8. Ultimate outdoor adventure???? Well, since my hubby is not a camper (to say the least!), I would say- to sit by a beautiful lake/ or preferably ocean or gulf and have a great book in my hand!!

  9. LOVE THIS BOOK SERIES!! My outdoor adventure would include jeeping along some mountain trails and then relaxing in a cabin with a snow-capped mountain view!

  10. And I thank you for giving me another reason to NOT go on a cruise ship. :) (my hubby doesn't thank you) Our door adventure to me would be traipsing all over Ireland and Scotland visiting the nooks and crannies of old castles.

  11. My ultimate outdoor adventure would be camping in a trailer with a bathroom and shower. My hubby would go hunting during the day while I lock up the trailer and read, read, and read some more till he comes back. I've done this once. The only problem was there was no bathroom and shower in the trailer. This was for a week. The bathroom part was solved but the shower had to wait till we got home! Yes, I would do it again as long as we have a bathroom and shower.

  12. I think a long camping and whitewater rafting trip would be a blast! I'm really looking forward to reading this book. Thanks for the giveaway!!!

  13. Probably a weeklong hiking trip in the mountains. Bookwormgal2011(at)yahoo(dot)com

  14. I don't like going on cruises - I get sick when I'm on a boat. I have gone camping with my family when I was young but now that everyone is no longer here, I don't go camping. I miss those days when we would sit around the campfire at night and talk and relax staring up at the stars. During the cold winter months I head to Florida for a few months and hang out with friends and head to the beach. Thank you for the opportunity to win Stranded. I love reading Dani's books.

  15. For an outdoor adventure, I would love to go whitewater rafting or go camping.

  16. Would love to win. Have a God blessed day.

  17. I love to camp! I would go Whitewater Rafting. I have never done it, but it sounds like fun. :) Thanks for the giveaway.

  18. My outdoor adventure would be sleeping in a treehouse somewhere overlooking God's great country, or maybe sleeping in a hut over the water. Just relaxing would be wonderful!

  19. I would do some serious whitewater rafting or boating. I have been white water rafting and I love boating. I would love to do more of it. Hunting and fishing would be great too.

Thank you so mucho for the review and giveaway! Her books are excellent. Thanks!

  20. My ultimate adventure would be 2 weeks in Costa Rica!

  21. I would love to take an Alaskan cruise. I think it would be gorgeous scenery and a wonderful trip. Book sounds interesting and intriguing. Please enter me in the giveaway. Thank you!

  22. Hehe, had to laugh at this question because my "ultimate wild outdoor adventure" would mean camping out in the woods without a trailer and without a toilet. That's as wild as it gets for me. And I would avoid such a situation at all costs. ;)

Although I like some of these other responses! Neither going on a cruise or traipsing through castles sounds like too much of a hardship. :)

  23. My ultimate outdoor adventure would be to enjoy some of our beautiful National Parks. I would enjoy fishing by a peaceful lake too.

  24. Being born and raised in Pretoria, South Africa, I've never seen snow, so my ultimate outdoor experience would actually be to visit Alaska in the winter, and to see the northern lights. Can't wait for Stranded, I adore Darcy and Gage and I can't wait to share their journey.

  25. Riding horses in the mountains of Wyoming or Montana...Love Dani's books...thanks for the chance to win!

  26. My outdoor adventure would be going back to Banff, Canada where my husband and I went on our honeymoon 27 years ago. Loved the sight seeing of the animals and the mountains and driving from Banff up to Jasper and back. I would love to win this book. I have just finished both Submerged and Shattered. Both suspenseful and I did not want to put them down. Looking forward to reading Stranded and want to read more from Dani Pettrey!

  27. I think it would be to hike the appalachian trail
